Due to the ongoing status of Corona 19 Virus the Cocktail party was totally cancelled for 2020 however our Social Secretary Kaz Pointon pulled a recovery program for 2021 by issuing a calling notice to partake in a virtual Party using Zoom. Kaz was looking for people who might give a 10 min talk to provide some interest for the evening. The night was set at 24/04/2021 7 pm start and not having worked Zoom before and still not sure of all its features I decided to log in about 10 mins early in case of issues.
Also tried to get some nibbles via the Upwey Wishing Well as they did a high tea takeaway but they require a two day notice. So next best option was Special Tea cakes, Gin, Beer and Tonic plus nibbles in form of crisps and Doretos. We are all set.
The Studio was set up with Tablet mirrored to big screen TV and the codes received from Kaz were punched in. "Please wait while your host logs you in." About three minutes later Kaz and Steve appear. No Sound. This Andoid stuff is OK but instructions are pretty basic and you have to fiddle to find the Controls. DONT LET GOOGLE USE ANDROID IN A TYPHOON.
We are now live and with glass in hands we send out cheers and Kaz explains a few things. One by one people start to come online and Steve logs them in. Reminiscing seems to be the order of the day but also people added anecdotes about what they did in lock down and other stories of sailing traditions came through about having Black Pigs painted on your ankles when you rounded Cape Horn. I think this could be extended to those who have done the inshore passage around Portland Bill and a Bunny could be painted on your Ankle.
In order that this effort by Kaz was recorded I have managed to get some screen shots of those that took part.
