THE BEST FIRST OFFICER IN STAR FLEET.
JASON HOOK.
Jason sadly passed away in September of 2019 and I attended his funeral in Gloucester on the 16th October 2019 . I have received permission from his Widow, Beverly to enter this tribute to our Branch Site. For those who did not know or meet him he was first mate to Steve Lowe both in Lady Mona and Moonraker. Both he and Steve make an excellent team and Jason has produced some lovely photographic work for this site. Jason never joined us in this time but would attend all our functions as a guest of Steve and was most welcomed.
I have put together some other pictures of him below. Click on the Photos . Jason is on the extreme left first Photo.

All of us at Portland Branch RNSA express our deepest sympathy to his Widow and his family. Rest In Peace Jason.

Peter Eaglestone had stepped in to continue as our Membership Secretary and held it down for a couple of years. He sailed a Rival 34 named Karuna. She has a striking red hull. When Peter joined the committee he was someone with a fresh approach and forthright in what he believed in. His position has been taken over by Peter Stone who is one of the Branche's prolific sailors. May we wish you all the best in your future, Peter.
The folowing have also left us at the end of 2018. I regret I can only comment on those I knew but thank you all for being part of our branch.

2019. Goodby and a fond farewell to Doug Odgers (on Left). A Gentleman. Seen here at Mupe in 2018. Thank you for the Chilli Carne Carni you served me up at Lyme Regis. Thank you too for your excellent presentation on Edward De Bono's theories. Seems like there is only one Hat for me. The red one. His Victoria Francis 27 Jennaka II carried him across the channel and in it he secured the Branches Top Prize of the Portland Trophy.
Missing you already. Do keep in touch regards

Colleagues,
Sad to report that Hibbert Binney, an active member of the branch for many years, along with his wife, Jo, who pre-deceased him, died peacefully, aged 97, on the afternoon of Sunday 18th March, in Yeovil hospital. After a fall he had been moved there some days earlier from the care home in Sherborne, where he had lived for the last few years.
After a private funeral (family only), there will be a memorial service for the late Hibbert Binney, former Portland branch member, in Sherborne Abbey at 2.00 pm on Monday 14th May.
Regards
Branch Secretary
PS by BSA I met Hibbert early in the 1980s by accident when we had our boats on the Boscowan beach. My tender that I still have was badly hold when dear Hibbert lost control of his very heavy Boat Trailer. In steps Ted Bond and arranges for my tender to be repaired in the dockyard. Good old days hey Hibbert.

A farewell service was held for Vera, wife of Douglas Arnold who sailed off last year. Vera was not only a lovely lady but a really talented seamstress. Vera met Doug in Blackpool whilst dancing and then they both moved back to Yeovil whilst Doug was serving at Yeovilton. Vera help Doug build his first boat out of Mahogany in their back garden. The last boat they had was "Celebration".
They were both long standing and honourary of Portland RNSA. |
