RIDING THE EDDIES 26TH JULY 2015. Picture by Richard Baker.
|
This was the actual situation at 10:10 26th July 2015. Winds 20-23mph gusting 30 Southerly. So although not as bad as picture above but enough to show the Riding of the Eddy should not be attempted above 12-14mph. All skippers were right to abandon event. Hope Oscar got his walk. Click on first photo which will then take you down the east side. White water all the way. Result 3 hrs of hell.
The following data shows how the streams are used and the times to be at specific locations. Engines may be required to maintain programme.

FINAL SAIL PLAN: ABANDONED
Updated to pass yellow can buoy on starboard. To go around it may take too much time. No time to anchor up in Chesil.
The yellow and red routes are out bound. the blue is inbound to ride the east eddy that will occur if you get to Bill at the time shown in the tidal streams aboves on the retrun.
