INVITATION FROM MICHAEL GREGORY.

We (WPCA) are having our annual boat jumble on Tuesday 27th February at Castle Cove Sailing Club and as usual are inviting members of other sailing clubs to attend. The event is in support of the RNLI who will have a table, and we will be having a collection for them on the night.
The event is free to enter both for sellers and buyers and initially I am looking for people who would like to take a table to sell off any of their unwanted (but loved!) sailing 'stuff'.  We usually can accomodate up to 10 tables which are offered on a 'first-come-first-served basis'.
If any of your members would like a table please ask them to contact me as soon as possible.  Other members who would like to attend as potential buyers simply turn up on the night.
I have attached a simple flyer in both A4 and A5 format which hopefully you would be able to display on your notice board or send round in an email.
If you have any questions please get back to me
Regards

Michael Gregory

24 October 2017. WPCA @ CC.Talk by Michael Gregory Narrow Boating on LLangollen Canal

Test Video to capture who was there. HD video appears to work slightly better
than Youtube A fast BB will solve this. No adverts or rubbish though. Keeps aspect ratio on size change. Cannot change quality level on published screen to speed up video.
Several members of Portland RNSA attended a well presented talk on a Narrow Boat holiday in north Wales. It would seem to me that although one may not be faced with the rigours of the Ocean there is still a lot of planning involved if you have to work to a time table. Looks very relaxing and accommodation aboard seems very comfortable. The bit that I would be concerned about is navigation wrt turning the vessel and passing as some of the Canal seems very narrow with only a boats width to use. The tunnels also present a challenge in that you have to check  to see if no one else is coming the other way. The highlight of the trip seem to be the traverse of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Here you pass high above the river Dee in the valley below.

Thank you Michael very much.
A question was posed as to why it was built and Wikipedia gives the following: The aqueduct was to be a key part of the central section of the proposed Ellesmere Canal, an industrial waterway that would create a commercial link between the River Severn at Shrewsbury and the Port of Liverpool on the River Mersey. However, only parts of the canal route were completed because the expected revenues required to complete the entire project were never generated. Most major work ceased after the completion of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in 1805. Although a cheaper construction course was surveyed further to the east, the westerly high-ground route across the Vale of Llangollen was preferred because it would have taken the canal through the mineral-rich coalfields of North East Wales

21 October 2017. WPCA @ WGC. Layup party Organised by Howard Cogan.

Several members of Portland RNSA attended (Peter G and Annette, Sandy and Winky Watson and Brendan Moore. There may have been other I didn't
recall). Camera failure, Please go to the following WPCA link  Here Photos not up loaded yet. Thank you Howard and Sue  for  a lovely evening meal which was very good value for money. Lighting was a bit too bright for me and not as good atmosphere as CC never the less  enjoyed the evening thoroughly.
Thank you Howard and Sue very much  for the work you put in.
