Visit to STARCROSS YACHT CLUB for RYA South West AGM. 8th November 2014.
I attended the above meeting as a representative of RNSA Portland Branch. Situated on the river EXE just to north of village of Starcross. Look out for sign S.Y.C and Powderham Church.
On arrival I nearly got the Berlingo jammed under the railway bridge. Very low. So I walked to the club and was presented with a delightful light salad with cheese , ham, cucumber, egg, tomato, coleslaw, B and B along with a very good cup of tea. I did think I was a bit overdressed but better that way for RNSA.
Now it may be a lesson to us all but as per the AGM of 2013 the committee got through it in 20 minutes. I met Nicola but she was not the Nicola Lane of old.
Aftwards we were treated to the Hafren lecture given by the two sailors who took this challenge on with no support boat.
An illustrated talk by South West Sailor Jeremy Warren - who with Phil Kirk is the new record holder on circumnavigating Great Britain in the Wayfarer Dinghy “Hafren” in just 32 days 3hours!
They started in Weymouth(Portland) and ended there.

Had to dash away at 16:00 as wi-fy wanted car. However I did manage to speak to Richard White, former commodore CCSC and now RYA rep for Weymouth and Portland. He has also taken on the role of Treasurer and has some funds that can be made available for appropriate projects.
